TELEUG PROVERBS---SUPPLEMENT
2321. గొడ్డుపోతును బిడ్డ కనమంటే, కంటుందా.
Will a barren woman brinfg forth a child at your bidding?
2322. గొర్రె ఏడిస్తే తొడేలుకు విచారమా.
When the sheep cries will be wolf be grieved?

2323. గోరు వాస్తే వేలంత, వేలు వాస్తే కాలంత, కాలు వాస్తే తోలంత, రోలు వాస్తే యెంత.
If the nail swell, [it will be] as big as finger; If the finger swell [it will be] as big as leg; If the leg swells [it will be] as big as mortar swell how big [it will be?]
Said in redicule fo a logician.

2324. చంద్రుణ్ణీ చూచి కుక్కలు మొరిగినట్టు.
Like dogs barking at the moon.

2325. చక్కెర పందిట్లో తేనెవాన కురిశినట్టు.
Like honey raining on a sugar Pandili (For pandili see No.61, see Nos.195,1261,1425,1430,1896)
2326. చచ్చిన తర్వాత తెలుస్తుంది శెట్టిగారి బండాలము.
After his death the state of the Setti's affairs will be known.
He is very close to his lifetime.
2327. చచ్చిన వాని తల తూర్పున వుంటేనేమి, పడమట వుంటెనేమి.
What does it matter whether a dead man's hed lie towards the east or towards the West?
(31) 2328. చచ్చేటప్పుడు శంకరా శంకరా అన్నాడట.
When he was at the point of death he cried " Sankara! Sankara ! (Siva.)
Deathbed repentance.
2329. చదువులలో మర్మమంతా చదివినాను అన్నాడట.
I have become acquainted with all the secret mysteries of learning.
The allusion is to the story of Prahlada son of Hiranyakasipa. The words of the Proverb are found in the Telugu translation of the Bhagavata Parana, ( but not in the Sanscrit original,) as having been used by Prahlada to his father.—( See Vishnu Purana Book I, Chapters 17—20.)
Said of a man who pretends to be learned.
2330. చదువూ లేదు, సంధ్యా లేదు, సంతానం మెండు.
[ He has ] no learning and [ says ] no prayers but [ has ] numerous issue.
Said of an ignorant, irreligious, sensual man.
2331. చవి యెరిగిన కుక్క చావగొట్టినా పోదు.
A dog attached [to his master ] will not leave him though he be beaten [ almost ] to death.
2332. చింత లేదు, చింత లేకపోతే పులుసు లేదు.
"No matter" said one," Then if there's no tamarind, there's no acid" said the other.
There is here a pun upon the word Chinta which means both "thought, sorrow" and also " tamarinds." TELUGU PROVERBS--SUPPLEMENT
2333. చిదిగి పొదిగి చిన్నవానికి పెండ్లి చేశే వరకు పెద్దవాని పెండ్లాము పెద్దలలోకి పోఉయినదట.
When by saying and saving they married the younger son, the dlder's wife went to her ancestors.
2334. చినుకులకు చెరువులు నిండుతవా?
Will the tanks be filled by drizzling rain?
2335. చిన్నక్కను పెద్దక్కను, పెద్దక్కను చిన్నక్కను చేశేవాడు.
He makes the younger sister the elder, and elder sister the younger.

Said an unprincipled, untruthful man.
2336. చిన్న ఉఇల్లు కట్టుకొని పెద్ద కాపురము, చెయ్య వలెను.
Build a small house, and become great. The hindus consider it unlucky to commence house keeping in a large house.
2337. చిన్నవాడి తండ్రి విద్వాంసుడు, చిన్నవాడు చదువుకోంటే అక్కరలోకి వస్తాడు.
The boy's father is a learned man, if the boy acquire learning he will be of use.
2338. చీకటి కొన్నాళ్ళు, వెన్నెల కొన్నాళ్ళు.
Darkness for some days, moonlight for some days.

Joy and sorrow are equally divided.
2339. చీమలు పెట్టిన పుట్టలు పాములకు యిరవు అవుతున్నవి.
Anthills raised by raised by ants becojme the dwelling of snakes.
One enjoys what another has acquiired.

(33) ఆంద్రలోకోక్తిచంద్రికా శేషము.
2340.చూడక తిరగక చూస్తూ చెయ్యి వలసినది.
Before seeing him, before he turns, and looking at him, ou must do it. i.e.Before you see the sun in the morning, before it passessthe meridian, and at sunset you must perform Sandhyavandanam(daily prayers)
2341. చూస్తే నీది, చూడకుంటే నాది.
If seen it's yours, if not seen it's mine. The trick of thief or a shoplifter who, if noticed, pretends that his intensions are not dishonest.
2342. చెడి చెన్నాపట్నం చేరు.
Ruined, gp tp Chennapattnam
To recover your fortune.
2343. చెప్పితే శిగ్గు, దాస్తే దు:ఖం.
If you tell it ---shame; if you hide it--sorrow. The allusion is to audultery.
2344. చెప్పులు చిన్నవి అని కాళ్ళు తెగకోసుకో వచ్చునా.
Are you to your feet because your shoes are too small?
2345. చెరుకు వుండే చోటికి చీమలు తామే వస్తవి.
Ants come of themselves to the place where is sugarcane. Where the carcase is, the ravens willgather.
2346. చెరువు నిండితే కప్పలు చేరుతవి.
When the tank fills, the frogs assemble.
2347. చెల్లని కాసు యెన్నడూ చెల్లదు, వల్లని మొగుడు యెన్నడూ వల్లడు.
Non- current cash will never pass [in currency]; an unloving husband will never love [his wife]. (For cash [కాసు] See No.613)
(34) TELUGU PROVERBS--SUPPLEMENT
2348. చోద్యాల సోమదేవమ్మకు వాధ్యారి మొగుడు.
The fastidious Somidevi has a Veda-teacher for a husband.

2349. జరిగేమట్టుకు జయభేరి, జరగకపోతే రణభేరి.
As long as successful, the drum of history; when unsuccessful, the war drum. By smooth means if possibnle, if not by force.
2350. జిల్లేడు చెట్టున పారిజాతము పుట్టునా.
Will Parijata flowers grow on a Jilledu tree? Paarijata is the Nyctanthes Arbor Tristis, a very celebrated tree said to grow in Svarga, Indra's paradise (W.EIlliot). Jilledu is the Calotropes Gigantea.
2251. జెముడుకాయలు వున్నవా నీడ వున్నదా.
Has rthe Jemudu fruit or shade/ Jemudus is Euphorbia Tirucalli.

2352. డబ్బుకు వచ్చిన చెయ్యే వరహాకు వస్తుంది.
The had which touches a Dabb, will touch a pagoda.

A man who is dishonest in trifles will not be scrupulous in greater matters. He that will steal an egg will steal an oz.
2353. డబ్బుకూ ప్రాణానకూ లంకె.
There is a link between money and life.
2354. డబ్బూయివ్వను, డబ్బుమీది దుమ్మూ యివ్వను.
I won't give a Dabb, I won't give the dust on a Dabb.
