college, who before he entered upon his distingnised career first as a student and then a teacher of English Literature had already won his laureles as a Sarscrit and Teluga poet. The difficulty of the test was however completely surmounted and the first poet left it to his learned colleague to supply the remaining lines of the stanzas. This was done with equal success the glibness with the two hands dealt with their subjects being simply marvellous. The audience were more than satisfied and heartily applauded the young per- formera, to describe, ehose, wonderful powers of skill and memory. We are at a lats. far. wards. Both in Teluga and Sonscrit their achievements caused astonishment and delight and they are jostly looked upon as prodigies. The meeting began about 4 in the after- noon and did not break up till neearly. 9 o'clock when everybody went home nfter spending a very agreeable evening. We are glad to add that before the meeting dispersed and a subbacription list was circulated and a handsome amount promised for the benefit of our distinguished visitors who well deserve all the popularity, they enjoy. Our townsmen in honouring them are about honouring themselves, for is speaks much for our patriotism when we en- courage proficiency is the languages, of our country especially when such masters of eastern literature grace our town with thạre presence. On Wednesday the poets gave what may perhaps be called a variety entertainment. Ashtavadanam in which many de vices were resorted to for the sake of distracting their attention and making their task still wore formidable.
