660. కూత కరణము.

661. కూత లార్భాటాలేగాని కుప్పలో గింజ లేదు.
- Great cries, but not a grain in the heap.

- A great noise of threshing, but no grain to thresh.
- "Great cry and little wool” as the fellow said when he sheared the pig.
662. కూతుండ్ల కన్నమ్మకు కురిచీపీటలు, కొడుకుల కన్నమ్మకు గోడ పంచలు.
- The lady who has daughters is given a chair, but the lady who has sons has to lean against the wall.
663. కూతురని కుంచెడిస్తే, తల్లియని కంచెడు బెట్టినదట.
- When the mother gave her daughter a kuncham of grain, the daughter set before her mother a dishful of food.

664. కూతురికి మంగళవారం శుక్రవారం, కోడలికి దియ్యలు దియ్యలు.
- [I only anoint] my daughter on Tuesdays and Fridays, but [I anoint] my daughter-in-law every Diyyalu.
- A catch. Diyyalu or Dipavali is a feast held on the 14th day of the dark fortnight in the month Asvayuja (October-November) on which occasion anointing the body with oil is indispensable. The "every Dipavali” of the mother-in—law therefore only amounted to once a year, but she took better care of her own daughter.
