TELLUGU PROCVERBS--SUPPLEMENT
2385. తెల్లగావుంటే పాలు, నల్లగా వుంటే నీళ్ళు.
If it's white it's milk, if it's darj it's water.
Said a simple minded, guileless man.
2386, తేనె వున్న చోట యీగలు పోగవుతవి.
Flies collect in the place where there is honey.
2387. తోడేటిని గొర్రెల కాయపెట్టినట్టు.
Like putting a wolf to watch the sheep.
You give the wold the wheter to keep it To entrust the sheep to the wolf. (Laths)* He sets the wolf to guard the sheep. (Itallad)t
2388. తోలు తియ్యకనే తొనలు మింగేవాడు.
One who swallows fruit without taking off the skin.

2389. దయలేని అత్తకు దండం పెట్టినా తప్పే.
If [the daughter-in-law] even salute her unkind mother-in-law, it's a fault.

(41) ఆంద్రలోకోక్తి చంద్రికా శేషము
2291. దీపము వుండగా నిప్పుకు దేవులాడనేల.
When there is lamp, why shy should you searcg for fire?
2292. దీపాన వెలిగించిన దివిటీ.
A torch lighted from alamp.
Said of a great man sprung from a humble family.
2293. దున్నపోతు యీనినదంటే, చెంబు తేరా పాలు పితుకుదామన్నట్టు.
"The male buffaloe has calved" cried one, Then bring the pot and we will milk him' repleid the other.

2394. దున్నలాగున కష్టపడి దొరలాగున తినవలెను.
One must work like a buffalo abd eat like a gentleman.
2395. దున్నిన పొలాలకు తాగిన గంజికీ సరి.
The rice water which he drank was equivalent to the field which he ploughed.
Pay proportionate to labour.
2396. దున్నేరోగులలో దేశం మీద పోయి కోత రోజులలో కొడవలి పట్టుకొని వచ్చినాడట.
In the ploughing season he went about the country, and at harvest time he came with his sickle.

2397. దున్నేవాడు లెక్క చూస్తే నాగలి కూడా మిగలదు.
If the plougher look into his accounts [he will find] that the plough even does not remain [as profit].

(42) TELUGU PROVERBS--SUPPLEMENT.
2398. దుమ్ము పోశి అంబలి కాచినట్టు.
Like making porridge of of dust. Labour wasted in a hopeless scheme.
2399. దుర్మార్గముకు తండ్రి బద్ధకము.
Idleness is the father of vice. Idleness is the root of all evil. Idleness is hunger's mother, and the theft it is first brother.(Douh.)*
2400. దూడచస్తే కమ్మలం, గేదె చస్తే నిమ్మళం.
If the calf dies there will be kammalam, If she bullalo dies there will be quiet. Kammalam, corrupted from the Tamil Kaimulam ( ) is a name given to the milk drawn from a cow or buffalo which has losst his calf,
2401. దేవుడు యిస్తాడుగాని, వండి వార్చి వాత కొట్టుతాడా.
God gives [food] but does He cook and strain it and put in the mouth?

2402. దేహము నీరు బుగ్గ వంటిది.
The body is like a water bubble.

2403. దేహి అంటే నాస్తి అన రాదు.
If one say "Dehi" (give) you should lnot reply "Nasti " (there is not) Alms should never be refused.

2404. దొంగకు అందరిమీద అనుమానమే.
The thief suspects every one.
A thief thinks every man steals.(Dealsh)*
2405. దొంగకు దొంగ బుద్ది, దొరకు దొర బుద్ది.
A thief has a thief's thoughts, a gentleman has gentleman"s thoughts.
2406. దొంగను దొంగ యెరుగును.
A thief is knon by a thief. A thief knows a thief, as wolf knows a wolf.
2407. దొంగ వస్తానని ముందు చెప్పి వుంటే, సాక్షులను సంపాదించి వుందును.
If the thief had said before that he was coming, I would have obtained witnesses.
2408. దొంగవాడి దృష్టి మూట మీదనే.
The thief's eye is upon the bundle.
2409. దొంగిలించేటంత దొరతనము వుండగా, అడిగేటంత అన్యాయముకు లోబడుతానా.
When I have such power of stealing shall I subnmit to the injustice of asking?

TELUGU PROVERBS--SUPPLEMENT
2411. ద్రావిడానాం ఘృతం నాస్తి, మిళ్ళే మిళ్ళే నిరంతరం.
There is no ghi among the Dravidas, [they serve it] always in spoonfuls.
Said by a Telugu man of the Tamilians who eat very little ghi with their food. Milli is a very small spoon used in offerings., &c.,called in Sanscrit Darvvi.

2412. ధర్మము తల కాచును
Virtue protects the head.
The reward of virtue in this life is protection from evil.
2413. ధర్మమే జయము, దైవమే గతి.
Virtue alone is sucess, God alone is a refuge.
2414. ధూపం వేస్తే పాపం పోతున్నది.
If you offer incense, sin will be removed.

2315. నక్కవాత మన్ను కొట్టినాడు.
He threw mud into the mouth of the jackal.
i.e cheated him.
Said of the surprising recovery of a sick man who had been given up, and wshose body it was expected might provide food for the jackals.
2416. నక్కా నక్కా నా నామం చూడు, తిరిగి చూస్తే తిరుమణి చూడు.
O Jackal! Jackal! look at my Namam, if you look again see my Tirumani. (For Namam see No.789)---Tirumani (lit sacred earth) is the nsme given to the outer lines, made with white clay, of the namam.
